Ever have a schedule problem, college questions, need scholarship help or just want to talk? Well stop by room 203 because Kim Swords will definitely be of assistance to you.
She has worked at OHS as a counselor for 24 years. She went to school at Danville Area Community College and Eastern Illinois University and received her bachelors in psychology and masters in endorsed school counseling and student personnel in higher education. “I chose this career because my high school experience of having a counselor was non existing so I wanted to be the change in the profession,” Swords said.
If you thought that being a counselor was hard enough, try raising four kids as well. She is one hard working mom. One interesting fact about her was that she was born in Buffalo, New York and her family was the only part of the family that left New York.
“My favorite thing about my job is working with high school students. I enjoy having a student body for four years and love seeing them grow and watching the accomplishments that they make,” Swords said. “Mrs. Swords is always there no matter the situation, whether it’s college related or home related. Her door is always open for anyone,” senior Karina Delgado said.
We know that Swords will be here for many more years to come.
