Despite OHS music department losing their 20 time streak, there is still a lot to be proud of. OHS placed 2nd in the IHSA AA music competition on April 22, with an outstanding 1,029 points, 12 away from first place.
Any other year, this score would have won OHS first place. “A school with a very large program figured out how to put it all together and scored higher. Their program is roughly twice the size of ours,” Choir director Spencer Rockford said.
The first part of the competition was on March 4, Solo and Ensemble contest. The music department received 729 points from that section and maxed out during Organizational. “The students did awesome at contest. I was so proud of my choirs and the bands as well,” Rockford said.
“Contest is not just about musical talent and numbers, it’s about hard work and heart. The students at Ottawa have this,” Rockford said. We have no doubt that OHS will have another title in the future.
