Sophomore Marta Johnson has been playing tennis ever since she was six years old, and
that is just one reason why she has been moved up to play on varsity. Her family is very involved
in tennis, as her dad is the coach for the varsity team. This helped Johnson get involved in tennis
at such a young age. She has an enormous amount of love and passion for the sport, and is
surrounded by a great group of girls who always encourage her to do her best, which makes
playing even better.
Johnson loves that her family is as involved in tennis as she is. “My favorite memory
from tennis is always being surrounded by my family. My sister and I have been playing tennis
with our dad ever since we could hold a racket. We are teammates now and our dad is the coach
so we’re always getting our family time in, even with our busy schedules. Having them around
has helped me so much throughout the years.”
Alongside being a star tennis player, Johnson is also involved in the Superfan
club, Track, yearbook and is a DoChange Mentor and Student Council member. “It’s a lot of
work trying to balance out being in a sport with all the other things I do, but I make it work.”
Johnson plans to continue playing tennis throughout her high school years and is unsure
about sports in college.
