Serving Up at State

The tennis players have had an amazing season with an ending record of 11-0. They have done so well, in fact, that a handful made it all the way to state. The state qualifiers for this season are freshman Sarah Meyers in singles, and sophomore Rebekah Felty and junior Marta Johnson and senior Regan O’Fallon and sophomore Ella Marvel in doubles.
At sectionals, the team took 1st place. This is the 3rd consecutive sectional title for the girls tennis team. Marvel and O’Fallon earned 1st, the team of Johnson and Felty as well as Meyer all placed 4th.
O’Fallon and Marvel placed 5th in doubles at state out of 64 teams. O’Fallon and Marvel went 6-1 during the week, only losing to the state champs in the quarter finals. The other girls battled during the opening rounds and learned a lot from their fierce competitors. At state all of the qualifiers faced some of the hardest competition they’ve seen all season. As a team, Ottawa placed 9th in Class 1A. This is their 3rd consecutive top 10 finish at state.
Coach Steve Johnson is very proud of their success. “I love being able to see people improve throughout the season, this one more than others. You can see them taking steps of improvement even in our short span of 7-8 weeks,” Johnson said.
